Joi Barrios-Leblanc has published: two volumes of poetry, To Be a Woman is to Live at a Time of War (Ang Pagiging Babae ay Pamumuhay sa Panahon ng Digma), and Sweetened Fruit and Other Love Poems (Minatamis at Iba Pang Tula ng Pag-ibig); a play collection, Bailaya ; a collection of romance novelettes My Prince Charming and Other Romance Novels (Ang Aking Prince Charming at Iba Pang Nobela ng Pag-ibig), 2000; and her dissertation From the Theater Wings: Grounding and Flight of Filipino Women Playwrights (Mula sa mga Pakpak ng Entablado),” 2005. She also edited Savage Stage: Plays by Ma-Yi Theater Company, 2006.
She has won more than a dozen literary awards.. In 1999, she was among the 100 women of the 20th century honored as “Weaver of History” by the National Centennial Commission Women’s Sector. In 2004, she was again honored as one of the Ten Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS).
Dr. Barrios-Leblanc is on leave from the University of the Philippines where she is an Associate Professor. She is a member of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (New Patriotic Alliance in the Philippines) and literary manager of Ma-Yi.
